“Is European Democracy in Danger?” is a 3-month MEU simulation for students aged 15-18. Coordinated by IES Pompeu Fabra in Badalona (Barcelona), Spain, participants act as MEPs to debate threats to democracy. On February 10th, 2027, the event “Eurodiputado por un día” ( in person or online )will culminate with the 10 best-defended proposals to create a joint final manifesto promoting democracy.

Description

We are seeking an upper secondary school (videregående skole) in Oslo or Copenhagen—or alternatively from other European countries—to join us in a Model European Union (MEU) simulation.

As the coordinating school, we will host and manage the project, providing a structured workspace and clear guidelines for all participating students.

What we will do:
The core theme of our project will be “Is European Democracy in Danger?”. Our students will step into the shoes of EU ministers and Members of the European Parliament to debate critical issues threatening democratic values today, such as disinformation, polarization, and  lack of civic engagement.

Duration and Final Event:
This is a 3-month project that will culminate in a special closing event named “Eurodiputado por un día” (MEP for a day) on February 10th, 2027. The event will take place in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain) and can be attended either in person (if a physical mobility/exchange is possible) or online via live streaming. During this final day, students will debate, vote, and approve the 10 best-defended proposals, which will constitute the project’s final product.
