DIPLOMA DESCRIPTION

The holder of this diploma will have acquired the General Competence with regard to:

Assisting in dispensing and making pharmaceutical products and those specifically related to the same, and sell parapharmaceutical products, encouraging the promotion of health and carrying out administrative and stock control tasks, complying with the specifications of quality, safety and environmental protection.   

Within this framework, the PROFESSIONAL MODULES and their respective LEARNING OUTCOMES acquired by the holder are listed below:

 “Arrangement and Sale of Products” 

The holder:

Applies customer service techniques describing and implementing communication procedures and protocols.

Carries out activities related to the sale of parapharmaceutical products describing and applying the stages of a sale process.

Organizes para-pharmaceutical products in the point of sale applying merchandising techniques.

Deals with customers’ complaints recognising and applying performance criteria and procedures.

 “Pharmacy Management”

 The holder:

Manages pharmaceutical documentation, relating the same with the information that it must contain.

Controls the stock of pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products describing and applying administrative stock control operations.

Manages orders analysing purchasing characteristics of pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products.

Deals with prescriptions invoicing, including details of the administrative and legal process.

Uses computer applications assessing their usefulness in stock control.

 

 “Dispensing Pharmaceutical Products”

 The holder:

Applies protocols to dispense pharmaceutical products interpreting the prescription or request.

Dispenses medications relating them with therapeutic applications and conditions of use.

Dispenses pharmaceutical products used in hospitals identifying hospital organization protocols.

Dispenses homeopathic products relating them with their main applications, conditions of use and produced effect.

Dispenses phytotherapeutic products relating them with their main applications, conditions of use and produced effect.

Dispenses products for animals relating them with their main applications, conditions of use and produced effect.

 

 “Dispensing Pharmaceutical Products”

 The holder:

Applies protocols to dispense para-pharmaceutical products interpreting the prescription or request.

Chooses sanitary products and biocides describing their characteristics and relating their applications to the request or prescription.

Selects dermo-pharmaceutical products relating them with the care and protection needs of skin, hair and cutaneous annexes.

Selects oral hygiene products relating their applications with customers’ needs.

Selects dietetic products justifying their use in physiological situations with special nutritional needs.

Dispenses prostheses, audioprostheses, orthopaedic and ophthalmic optics products describing their characteristics and applications.

 

 “Elementary Laboratory Operations” 

The holder:

Maintains materials and facilities of auxiliary laboratory services, identifying necessary resources and relating the appropriate instruments with the main used techniques.

Prepares different types of solution with a determined concentration, making the necessary calculations and using the appropriate technique and equipment.

Separates chemical mixtures by means of elementary operations, relating the performed operation with the process taking place or the modified variable.

Identifies a substance characterising the same according to the measurement and interpretation of its most relevant parameters.

Applies common sample taking techniques following the main procedures for identification, preservation and record.

 

 “Magistral Formulation” 

The holder:

Prepares equipment for the making of pharmaceutical products and those specifically related to the same, recognising their mechanisms and function.

Verifies the quality of raw materials analysing current legislation, their labelling and conditions of storage and preservation.

Controls the primary packaging materials recognising legal specifications.

Makes pharmacy products and those specifically related to the same recognising and applying the physio-chemical fundamentals of elementary pharmaceutical operations.

Packages pharmacy products and those specifically related to the same in hygienic conditions, justifying the chosen packaging material.

 

 “Health Promotion” 

The holder:

Promotes healthy life habits relating health promotion programmes with target groups.

Develops health education programmes, assessing their impact on users.

Carries out simple analytical controls interpreting and applying normalized work protocols.

Supports customers psychologically identifying their psychological conditions and risk groups.

 

 “First Aid”

 The holder:

Carries out the initial assessment in case of an emergency, describing risks, available resources and the type of help needed.

Applies basic life support techniques describing and relating them with the aim to be achieved.

Applies procedures for immobilization and mobilization of victims selecting materials and techniques.

Applies techniques of psychological support and self-control for those injured and rest of passengers, describing and applying appropriate communication strategies.

 

  “Anatomophysiology and Basic Pathologies” 

The holder:

Recognises the hierarchical structure and general organisation of the human body, describing its structural units and relations according to specialization.

Localizes anatomical structures, differentiating conventional systems of body topography.

Identifies the general aspects of pathologies, describing the elements of the dynamic process of becoming ill and its relationship with clinics.

Recognises the systems related to movement, perception and relation, describing the structure, function and diseases of the nervous system, the senses and the locomotion system.

Recognises the systems related to oxygenation and distribution, describing the structure, function and diseases of the cardio circulatory system, the respiratory system and blood.

Recognises the systems related to metabolism, describing the structure, function and diseases of the digestive and renal systems.

Recognises the systems intervening in the internal regulation of the body and its relation with the environment, describing the structure, function and diseases of the endocrine, genital and immunological systems.

 

 “Professional Training and Guidance” 

The holder:

Selects job opportunities, identifying the different possibilities of labour integration, and the alternatives of lifelong learning.

Applies teamwork strategies, assessing their effectiveness and efficiency on the achievement of the company’s goals.

Exercises rights and complies with the duties derived from labour relationships, recognising them in the different job contracts.

Determines the protective action of the Spanish Health Service in view of the different covered eventualities, identifying the different types of assistance.

Assesses risks derived from his/her activity, analysing job conditions and risk factors present in his/her labour setting.

Participates in the development of a risk prevention plan in a small enterprise, identifying the responsibilities of all agents involved.

Applies protection and prevention measures, analysing risk situations in the labour setting of the Technician in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy.

 

 “Business and Entrepreneurial Initiative” 

The holder:

Recognises skills related to entrepreneurial initiative, analysing the requirements derived from job positions and business activities.

Defines the opportunity of creating a small enterprise, assessing the impact on the performance setting and incorporating ethic values.

Carries out the activities for the setting-up and implementation of a company, choosing the legal structure and identifying the associated legal obligations.

Carries out basic administrative and financial management activities of an SME, identifying the main accounting and tax obligations and filling in documentation.

 

 “On the Job Training” 

The holder:

Identifies the company’s structure and organization, relating it to the production and marketing of the offered products.

Applies labour and ethic habits in his/her professional activity according to the characteristics of the job position and the procedures established by the company.

Sells products recognising and applying communication and marketing techniques.

Manages the stock control performing administrative operations.

Performs administrative operations applying the process of pharmaceutical documentation, money collection and prescription invoicing.

Dispenses pharmacy and parapharmacy products applying performance protocols.

Promotes healthy habits selecting education methods and materials and user information.

Performs elementary laboratory operations using equipment adequately.

RANGE OFOCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE DIPLOMA

 

The Technician in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy works in establishments where pharmacy and parapharmacy products and, in general, those related to human or animal health, as well as to cosmetics, phytotherapy and so forth are sold. Similarly, s/he can work in small laboratories making pharmaceutical products and those specifically related to.

AWARD, ACCREDITATION AND LEVEL OF THE DIPLOMA

 Name of the body awarding the diploma on behalf of the King of Spain: Spanish Ministry of Education or the different Autonomous Communities according to their areas of competence. The title has academic and professional validity throughout Spain.

 Official duration of the education/ training leading to the diploma: 2000 hours.

 Level of the diploma (national or international)

NATIONAL: Post-Compulsory Secondary Education

INTERNATIONAL:

Level 3 of the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED3).

 

Entry requirements: Holding the Certificate in Compulsory Secondary Education or holding the corresponding access test.

Access to next level of education/training: This diploma may provide access to Higher Technical Cycles provided that an entrance exam is passed.

 Legal basis. Basic regulation according to which the diploma is established:

Minimum teaching requirements established by the State: Royal Decree 1689/2007, of 14 December, according to which the diploma of Technician in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy and its corresponding minimum teaching requirements are established.
