La seva feina va estimular noves investigacions cient\u00edfiques i es convert\u00ed en una icona de la hist\u00f2ria de la ci\u00e8ncia que sovint es coneix com la Revoluci\u00f3 copernicana o Revoluci\u00f3 de Cop\u00e8rnic.<\/p>\n<p>Cop\u00e8rnic \u00e9s considerat el fundador de l&#8217;astronomia moderna, per tal com establ\u00ed les bases que permetrien a Galileu i Isaac Newton de culminar la revoluci\u00f3 astron\u00f2mica \u2014en passar d&#8217;un univers geoc\u00e8ntric a un cosmos helioc\u00e8ntric\u2014 i de capgirar de manera irreversible la visi\u00f3 del cosmos prevalent fins aleshores.<\/p>\n<p>Fou un dels grans polifac\u00e8tics del Renaixement: va ser matem\u00e0tic, astr\u00f2nom, metge, pol\u00edglota multil\u00edng\u00fce, [3] estudi\u00f3s dels cl\u00e0ssics, traductor i artista.[4] Tamb\u00e9 era clergue cat\u00f2lic, jurista, governador, l\u00edder militar, diplom\u00e0tic i economista. Entre les seves moltes responsabilitats, l&#8217;astronomia figurava com poc m\u00e9s que un passatemps.
