{"id":4304,"date":"2023-02-10T14:31:22","date_gmt":"2023-02-10T13:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agora.xtec.cat\/sescanet\/?p=4304"},"modified":"2023-09-26T10:19:12","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T08:19:12","slug":"sunsi-mora-students-practice-english-with-a-chatbot-and-reflect-on-artificial-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agora.xtec.cat\/sescanet\/portada\/sunsi-mora-students-practice-english-with-a-chatbot-and-reflect-on-artificial-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunsi M\u00f3ra students practice English with a chatbot and reflect on Artificial Intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">This week our 3rd ESO students have chatted online with an American language teacher who talks with students about their interests and hobbies and at the same time corrects their grammatical errors.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This is not an actual teacher but a virtual recreation, brought to conversation, if not quite life, by sophisticated chatbots on a website called Character.AI, which uses artificial intelligence to understand and generate human-like language.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With this AI bot, founded by two former Google researchers, students could have picked almost anyone, live or dead, real or imagined, to chat with. At Character.AI, which emerged this summer, users can chat with reasonable facsimiles of everyone, from Queen Elizabeth or William Shakespeare to Billie Eilish or Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In this AI project, carried out in the subject Social Studies in English, our students have ended up analyzing the potentials and dangers of chatbots and AI. On the one hand, there are many ways these tools could be used in the classroom (The teaching blog Ditch That Textbook has worked on <a href=\"https:\/\/ditchthattextbook.com\/ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ditchthattextbook.com\/ai&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1676099586679000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2q_HFxDt42G_zV4WLwZxrx\">a list<\/a> of possible uses for ChatGPT.) On the other hand, because these bots learn their skills from data posted to the internet by real people, they often generate untruths, hate speech, biases and toxic information.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Like it or not, tools like ChatGPT and Character.ai are here to stay, and today\u2019s students will graduate into a world full of conversational A.I. programs. At Sunsi Mora, students are learning to accept the flaws of chatbots and develop a healthy distrust of what they say in order to work alongside them. Amb Character.AI, que va sorgir aquest estiu, els usuaris poden xatejar amb facs\u00edmils raonables de tot tipus de personalitats, des de la reina Isabel o William Shakespeare fins a Billie Eilish o Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">En aquest projecte d&#8217;Intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia Artificial, realitzat a l&#8217;assignatura de Ci\u00e8ncies Socials en angl\u00e8s, els nostres alumnes han acabat analitzant les potencialitats i perills dels chatbots i la IA. D&#8217;una banda, hi ha moltes maneres d&#8217;utilitzar aquestes eines a l&#8217;aula (El bloc did\u00e0ctic Ditch That Textbook ha publicat una <a href=\"https:\/\/ditchthattextbook.com\/ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ditchthattextbook.com\/ai&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1676099586679000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2q_HFxDt42G_zV4WLwZxrx\">llista<\/a> de possibles usos del ChatGPT a l\u2019aula). D&#8217;altra banda, perqu\u00e8 aquests robots aprenen les seves habilitats a partir de les dades publicades a Internet per persones reals, sovint generen mentides, discursos d&#8217;odi, biaixos i informaci\u00f3 t\u00f2xica. Els alumnes han analitzat not\u00edcies en llengua anglesa per a ser conscients, tamb\u00e9, d\u2019aquests perills.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ens agradi o no, eines com ChatGPT i Character.ai han arribat per quedar-se, i els estudiants d&#8217;avui es graduaran en un m\u00f3n ple de programes d&#8217;IA conversacional. Al Sunsi Mora, els estudiants aprenen a acceptar els defectes dels chatbots i desenvolupen una desconfian\u00e7a sana del que diuen per treballar amb aquestes eines. Com argumenta Kevin Roose en un article al <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/12\/technology\/chatgpt-schools-teachers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" York Times<\/a>, &#8220;per ser bons ciutadans, necessitaran experi\u00e8ncia pr\u00e0ctica per entendre com aquest tipus d&#8217;IA funciona, quins tipus de biaix cont\u00e9 i els mals usos que poden
