The jar was used as a metaphor of our lives. Firstly, big ping-pong balls were introduced in it, representing the important things in life, those that need more time and attention; secondly smaller ones were introduced, representing secondary things that are not that important and then sand was introduced as a representation of things that do not matter that much and shouldn’t be given a lot of time. The jar looked full, but there was more space in it that could be filled, so she added some coke, this coke represented the free time that everyone needs in order to not lose his, or her, mind.

After this, the talk became more interactive; Goldie started asking different students how much time they have at their disposal to manage. The average number of hours that came out were six, more or less, so she asked if we think that in those six hours we can do everything we have to. The answer was no. Then she exposed some problems that we might have, as if: how can we avoid being stressed or how to get things done at time; and told us that the solution to them is not needing more time because time is limited, we only have twenty four hours a day; the real solution is managing it properly.

In order to get everything done by the end of the day, we need to spend time proportionally depending on what we are doing, going back to the jar of life experiment, the big ping-pong balls occupy more space in the jar than the smaller ones; therefore we need to give them more time. By being able, to balance our time depending on what we are doing we will never have any more time-related problem. Then she showed us the top then time thieves of youngsters, and as expected the first of them was procrastination. She gave us some advice so we could deal with it like thinking in how we would feel after doing the task we have unfinished, that feeling of relief would encourage us to get the job done and not postpose it for later.

The talk ended with Goldie telling us that we can follow her on her social media networks, like Instagram or Facebook, so we can contact her if we ever have problems with how to manage our time.

El passat 7 de març, els estudiants de primer i segon de batxillerat atengueren a una xerrada en anglès amb la coach Goldie Uttamchandani.
