Leonardo da Vinci Project. 2012 – 2014.

IPAN partnership Leonardo da Vinci Porject is a technical network including technical VET schools and companies from five different countries (Finland, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Spain). The main aim of the project was to plan and implement international technical student workshops in the close relationship with local companies and industrial needs. In all participating countries companies and company cooperation was actively linked to the project. Project also shared common understanding of the future technical and social needs for industrial workers and increased level of skills and competencies. ECVET (European Credits for VET) was involved in the project through learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and compatences) even thought ECVET process in project countries is still partly unclear and this are still needs more work together in the network. Finland is the only country at this point starting to use ECVET credits already in 2015.

IPAN network was a success and during two years project mutual trust among partners was created and network is ready for common further development cooperation. International workshops were efficient and interesting way to learn. Technical, social and lifelong learning skills increased among students and some students got possibility to use technologies not available in their own studies. Language and cultural skills also increased among students and staff members. Tested one week workshops were succesful, but too short for complete study module use. Project phase was also too short for curricula changes/modifications and workshops were made partly outside the used curricula. Situation varied on different countries and e.g. in Finland project was easily integrated into the studies. Participating teachers and staff members gained new ideas, pedagogical and technical materials and increased professional and social networks. At individual student level workshops offered new and effective learning outcomes, some students even gained new work positions (home country and abroad).

In summary, the aims of the project were:

Creation of international school-company partnership on production automation VET

Learning from each other and sharing good practices on techical VET

Building up trust for student workshops and ECVET mobility

Moodle as a working platform for discussions, materials and learning tasks

Company feedback and expectations concerning the future of VET

And the outcomes achieved:

Piloting of ”Production Automation ” modules through international student workshops together with companies

Discussions of ECVET (and EQF levels) by learning outcomes view (knowledge, skills, competencies).

Company needs, feedback and modification on study modules and learning tasks

Possible extension of student workshops into learning exchanges (e.g. international on-the-job learning 3-8 weeks) in the future…
