Durant les diverses fases que el comprenen s&#8217;hi produeix un intercanvi de material gen\u00e8tic entre cromosomes hom\u00f2legs (un provinent del pare i l&#8217;altre de la mare), de manera que es formen \u00f2vuls i espermatozoides cadascun amb una informaci\u00f3 \u00fanica.
