Aquest dia commemora la lluita de les dones per la seva participaci\u00f3, juntament amb els homes, en l&#8217;\u00e0mbit laboral i, per tant, pel dret a la independ\u00e8ncia econ\u00f2mica. La primera celebraci\u00f3 va tenir lloc el 19 de mar\u00e7 de 1911 a Alemanya, \u00c0ustria, Dinamarca i Su\u00efssa, i la seva commemoraci\u00f3 s&#8217;ha anat estenent, des de llavors, a molts altres estats.
