Les xarxes socials, seguides a certa distància dels jocs en línia multi jugador, són el nou context relacional online dels adolescents. En aquest context troben resposta a la majoria de les seves inquietuds. Encara que alguns incidents han vingut a posar aquests espais en dubte, no han reportat nous riscos ja que no són sinó una concreció de la pròpia xarxa Internet. No obstant això, també és cert que el desenvolupament vertiginós que han tingut, juntament amb algunes opcions d’ús que no contemplen l’interès superior del menor, han suposat que es converteixin en protagonistes de successos relacionats de forma prioritària amb les amenaces a la privacitat i el ciberbullying.
