Apareix documentat per primer cop en un pagament que se li fa a la Seu d&#8217;Urgell el 1538 per dirigir un grup de cantors forans. El cap\u00edtol de la catedral li ofer\u00ed el c\u00e0rrec de <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mestre_de_capella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mestre de capella<\/a> el 1539 i Brudieu s&#8217;establ\u00ed a la Seu d&#8217;Urgell. Es mantingu\u00e9 en el c\u00e0rrec fins el 1543, que, per causes desconegudes, hi renunci\u00e0. Dos anys m\u00e9s tard reprengu\u00e9 la seva tasca al capdavant de la capella catedral\u00edcia i s&#8217;hi mantingu\u00e9 fins el 1577. Fou ordenat de sacerdot poc abans del 1546. L&#8217;any 1575 s&#8217;encarreg\u00e0 de revisar els llibres de cor de la seu per tal d&#8217;acomodar-los als dictats de Trento. El 1577 es retir\u00e0 a Balaguer i l&#8217;any seg\u00fcent esdeving<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright\" title=\"De Joan Brudieu, no se'n t\u00e9 cap imatge, llevat d\u2019una \u00abevocaci\u00f3\u00bb\u00a0feta dins del segle XX per Eladi Duch Mosterio, pintor terrassenc nascut el 1931 \" src=\"http:\/\/institutjoanbrudieu.cat\/public\/web_centre\/html\/img\/brudieu_evocacio_eladi_duch_mosterio_segleXX.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"242\" height=\"324\" \/>u\u00e9 mestre de capella i organista de l&#8217;esgl\u00e9sia de Santa Maria del Mar de Barcelona. Com que no aconsegu\u00ed d&#8217;habituar-se a la vida barcelonina, deman\u00e0 \u00e9sser readm\u00e8s a la Seu d&#8217;Urgell, fet que es produ\u00ed el 1579. Es jubil\u00e0 el 1586, per\u00f2 el cap\u00edtol el sol\u00b7licit\u00e0 un altre cop en marxar <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rafael_Coloma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rafael Coloma<\/a> i deixar el c\u00e0rrec vacant, i torn\u00e0 a exercir des del 1589 fins a la data de la seva mort. El 1585 an\u00e0 a Barcelona per tal de contractar i supervisar l&#8217;edici\u00f3 del seu llibre de <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madrigal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">madrigals<\/a>, <em>De los madrigales del muy Reverendo Joan Brudieu Maestro de capilla de la Sancta Yglesia de la Seo de Urgel, a quatro bozes<\/em>, sufragat pel cap\u00edtol d&#8217;Urgell i dedicat a <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carles_Manuel_I_de_Savoia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carles Manuel I, duc de Savoia<\/a>, amb motiu del seu casament amb <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Caterina_Micaela_d%27Espanya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caterina d&#8217;\u00c0ustria<\/a>, filla de <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Felip_II_de_Castella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Felip II<\/a>. L&#8217;\u00fanic exemplar conservat d&#8217;aquesta obra \u00e9s a la biblioteca del monestir d&#8217;El Escorial. Dins el recull de quinze madrigals hi ha musicats quatre textos en catal\u00e0, dos dels quals s\u00f3n poemes d&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ausi%C3%A0s_March\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ausi\u00e0s March<\/a>: <em>Ma voluntat ab la raho s&#8217;envolpa<\/em> i <em>Fantasiant amor<\/em>. A m\u00e9s hi incorpora els <em>Goigs de nostra dona<\/em>, un seguit de variacions sobre un tema de probable arrel popular que \u00e9s pres com a <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cantus_firmus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>cantus firmus<\/em><\/a>. La resta de composicions porten text castell\u00e0. L&#8217;estil dels madrigals \u00e9s m\u00e9s aviat conservador, molt centrat en els recursos de la polifonia imitativa i sense la insistent preocupaci\u00f3 per la comprensibilitat del text t\u00edpica dels madrigals italians contemporanis. Hi s\u00f3n evidents, d&#8217;altra banda, elements propers a la tradici\u00f3 de la <em>chanson<\/em> francesa. A m\u00e9s del recull de madrigals, a l&#8217;arxiu de la catedral de la Seu d&#8217;Urgell es conserva, manuscrita, una missa de difunts a quatre veus, l&#8217;\u00fanica del segle XVI d&#8217;autor catal\u00e0 conegut.
