Per portar-ho a terme van haver de construir pr\u00e8viament al laboratori un quadrant, que \u00e9s un aparell de mesura. Aquest senzill instrument pot mesurar l&#8217;altura de qualsevol astre sobre la l\u00ednia de l&#8217;horitz\u00f3 segons l&#8217;angle que forma aquest amb la nostra visual.
