La sortida s&#8217;emmarcava dins de les activitats que fem a l&#8217;institut en motiu de la setmana de la ci\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n<p>Durant la sortida, ens van explicar que ara est\u00e0 en funcionament l&#8217;ordinador Mare Nostrum 4, que t\u00e9 una capacitat d&#8217;11 petaflops, per\u00f2 que al gener estar\u00e0 en funcionament l&#8217;ordinador Mare Nostrum 5, amb una capacitat de 300 petaflops i que ser\u00e0 un dels 10 ordinadors m\u00e9s potents del m\u00f3n. Tamb\u00e9 ens van explicar qu\u00e8 \u00e9s un petaflop: equival a una capacitat de c\u00e0lcul de mil bilions\u00a0 d&#8217;operacions per segon (10 elevat a 15, o un 1 seguit de 15 zeros).<\/p>\n<p>A m\u00e9s de veure les instal\u00b7lacions i l&#8217;ordinador, tamb\u00e9 vam tenir l&#8217;oportunitat de saber per a qu\u00e8 serveix un s\u00faper computador, i alguns dels projectes de recerca a qu\u00e8 actualment d\u00f3na servei. Ens van explicar que el fan servir cient\u00edfics i enginyers de tota Europa, i que s&#8217;utilitza per fer c\u00e0lculs de camps tan diferents com biomedicina, astrof\u00edsica, paleontologia o fusi\u00f3 nuclear. Per\u00a0 exemple, l&#8217;estudi de prote\u00efnes no \u00e9s complet si no se sap com es mouen dins del cos, i aquest moviment\u00a0 que \u00e9s molt dif\u00edcil d&#8217;observar es pot simular amb el Mare Nostrum, per aix\u00ed saber l&#8217;efecte d&#8217;una mutaci\u00f3 en una prote\u00efna concreta i com aix\u00f2 afecta el funcionament d&#8217;una c\u00e8l\u00b7lula.<\/p>\n<p>Podeu veure
