Debolsillo (cast.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Novembre 2017<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Quan Iris Murdoch (Dubl\u00edn, 1919-1999) va obtenir el prestigi\u00f3s premi Brooker Prize l\u2019any 1978 per l\u2019obra que presentem tot seguit \u2014<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>El mar, el mar<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2014, era ja una escriptora consagrada i en possessi\u00f3 d\u2019un esquema argumental fecund, un fil\u00f3 narratiu que havia explotat amb \u00e8xit a la desena llarga de novel\u00b7les publicades d\u2019en\u00e7\u00e0 que el 1954 va veure la llum la seva primera obra, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>Under the net<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">L\u2019esmentat fil\u00f3 narratiu que a mode d\u2019armadura, d\u2019estructura subjacent, esdev\u00e9 subst\u00e0ncia de les trames accidentals de les seves obres es podria sintetitzar aix\u00ed: sacsejats els personatges per passions d\u2019una gran intensitat (la gelosia, l\u2019orgull ferit, l\u2019enamorament possessiu, la por), arrossegats a l\u2019infern, submergits a les t\u00e8rboles aig\u00fces dels pensaments m\u00e9s foscos, dels dubtes insuportables capa\u00e7os de fer-los embogir, l\u2019autora els aixeca moment\u00e0niament de la seva postraci\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s d\u2019un esdeveniment que obre la porta a l\u2019esperan\u00e7a, a la felicitat somiada, par\u00e8ntesi ef\u00edmer que un nou parpelleig de la consci\u00e8ncia esvair\u00e0 tot enfonsant-los novament en el m\u00f3n dels dimonis. Semblaria com si l\u2019autora irlandesa es propos\u00e9s mostrar-nos que la vida progressa a empentes i rodolons, que la seva finalitat no \u00e9s sin\u00f3 la de desvirtuar amb crueltat tota conversi\u00f3, tot triomf, tot moment de felicitat o fins i tot de virtut. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I. Murdoch vincula aquest moment on les passions paralitzen la llibertat de moviments de la ment a una actitud \u00e8tica: la de la ceguesa que ens incapacita per veure tota realitat que no sigui la pr\u00f2pia. En aquesta fase, la fantasia d\u2019un ego autocentrat construeix imatges dels altres que lluny de desvelar la seva naturalesa la deformen com si fossin fantasmes creats enmig d\u2019un deliri, d\u2019una mena d\u2019estat hipn\u00f2tic permanent que esdev\u00e9 conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia d\u2019unes passions viscudes exacerbadament.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Per\u00f2 les seves novel\u00b7les no conclouen en aquest punt. L\u2019armadura a la qual ens refer\u00edem ens t\u00e9 reservada una sorpresa. A les acaballes dels seus relats els protagonistes experimenten una transformaci\u00f3 sorprenent, estranya, radical, que els fa transcendir el seu autocentrament des d\u2019una mirada desapassionada de la qual no poden donar ra\u00f3 perqu\u00e8 forma part d\u2019un misteri que els sobrepassa. \u00c9s a partir d\u2019ara que la realitat abans negada emergeix i es percep fidelment \u2014instant en qu\u00e8 la ceguesa del turment, conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia de l\u2019orgull, dona lloc a aquella visi\u00f3 serena sense la qual no pot obrir-se pas la virtut ni esdevenir l\u2019eticitat.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Quant a l\u2019argument de l\u2019obra, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>El mar el mar<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> es construeix sobre un nombre redu\u00eft de personatges. Amb set o vuit en t\u00e9 prou l\u2019autora per teixir els fils d\u2019una trama que es podria sintetitzar aix\u00ed: un director de teatre especialitzat en les obres de Shakespeare, retirat en una casa a la vora del mar, es proposa escriure les seves mem\u00f2ries. Charles Arrowby, aquest \u00e9s el seu nom, ha estat un tir\u00e0 amb els seus actors, personatges que mantenen amb ell una relaci\u00f3 ambivalent d\u2019admiraci\u00f3 i odi que sembla no importar massa a qui no ha dubtat a seduir les diferents actrius que ha dirigit a la recerca d\u2019una felicitat que li ha estat negada. La ra\u00f3 del frac\u00e0s d\u2019aquestes relacions ens la confessa el propi Charles: en cap d\u2019elles no ha trobat un sentiment semblant a l\u2019experimentat en una relaci\u00f3 que va mantenir a la seva primera joventut. El trencament d\u2019aquesta relaci\u00f3 i la posterior desaparici\u00f3 de la jove, mai no retrobada pel protagonista, marc\u00e0 definitivament la seva vida sentimental. Per\u00f2 la situaci\u00f3 canvia inesperadament quan Charles descobreix un dia la Hartley \u2014aquest era el nom de la jove\u2014 a prop de la casa on rememora el seu passat. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Tot i el temps transcorregut \u2014gaireb\u00e9 quaranta anys\u2014, un sentiment de la mateixa intensitat al viscut temps enrere reneix en el cor del director i amb ell l\u2019esperan\u00e7a de reprendre la relaci\u00f3 en el mateix punt en qu\u00e8 es va tallar. Cec pel desig de reviure-la, el protagonista deforma la imatge actual de la Hartley incapa\u00e7 de veure que la seva realitat personal s\u2019assembla poc a la que ell havia idealitzat durant el llarg per\u00edode de la seva abs\u00e8ncia. I en aquest punt, de poc serveixen els advertiments dels amics que el van a visitar per despertar-lo del seu miratge: aferrissat massa temps a un record, tanca els ulls a un present que no se li assembla i el nega. El drama est\u00e0 servit. El deliri far\u00e0 la resta.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Un darrer apunt. Un personatge proper al protagonista, el seu cos\u00ed James \u2014home enigm\u00e0tic, militar que ha visitat freq\u00fcentment l\u2019\u00cdndia i ha entrat en contacte amb la saviesa oriental\u2014, tindr\u00e0 un paper clau en la transformaci\u00f3 que a les acaballes de l\u2019obra experimentar\u00e0 Charles. Fidel a la seva convicci\u00f3 que l\u2019autodescentrament de la mirada capa\u00e7 de transcendir l\u2019ego i obrir-lo cap a l\u2019eticitat forma part de l\u2019\u00e0mbit del misteri, I. Murdoch envolta la conversi\u00f3 del protagonista en el marc d\u2019un esdeveniment inversemblant, gaireb\u00e9 miracul\u00f3s, que romandr\u00e0 per ell en la boira d\u2019una semiinconsci\u00e8ncia que no revelar\u00e0 a ning\u00fa, com aquelles certeses \u00edntimes mai no confessades que en un instant de la nostra vida obren un nou sentit per la nostra exist\u00e8ncia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[A.
