A vegades la vergonya pot aixecar veritables muralles per evitar que un tret traumatitzant surti a la llum. La resist\u00e8ncia a parlar d\u2019all\u00f2 viscut com a oprobi i deshonra pot portar a un individu a acceptar el dest\u00ed m\u00e9s terrible si d\u2019aquesta manera evita desemmascarar el seu defecte. Tot ho suportarien aquests personatges abans de donar publicitat a all\u00f2 encobert; qualsevol preu estarien disposats a pagar per mantenir ocult el que consideren el m\u00e9s gran dels pecats, el pitjor dels vicis, la falta sense remissi\u00f3. B\u00e9 podr\u00edem dir que amb l\u2019energia que inverteixen a sostenir l\u2019ocultaci\u00f3, amb els subterfugis i mentides amb qu\u00e8 mantenen una doble vida, una imatge falsa de si mateixos, podrien afrontar el problema i resoldre\u2019l definitivament. Per\u00f2 en el moment de fer-ho defalleixen; mancats de la determinaci\u00f3 necess\u00e0ria, l\u2019 \u00fanica alternativa que s\u2019obre davant dels seus ulls \u00e9s la fugida i la seva vida esdev\u00e9 aleshores una peregrinaci\u00f3 enlloc, un viatge sense retorn, un canvi constant d\u2019escenari carregant sobre les esquenes amb la feixuga c\u00e0rrega de la vergonya. La protagonista de la novel\u00b7la de B. Schlink, Hanna, \u00e9s un d\u2019aquests personatges. Tot comen\u00e7a el dia en qu\u00e8 un adolescent, Michael Berg, inicia una relaci\u00f3 amb ella (vint anys m\u00e9s gran) en el context de l\u2019Alemanya de la postguerra. Formen part de dos m\u00f3ns diferents: ell, fill d\u2019un professor que acostuma a parlar dels problemes a casa d\u2019una forma oberta, ha estat educat en els valors d\u2019una llibertat responsable, de la racionalitat amb la qual s\u2019han de tractar les q\u00fcestions relatives a la conviv\u00e8ncia, de la import\u00e0ncia en definitiva del di\u00e0leg. Hanna, per contra, ho amaga tot. La seva \u00e9s una vida sense passat. Res no en sabem a excepci\u00f3 del fet que treballa com a revisora del tramvia i del desig que el jove li llegeixi llibres abans de cada trobada er\u00f2tica, pre\u00e0mbul literari que Hanna imposa com a condici\u00f3 necess\u00e0ria de la relaci\u00f3. Malgrat que el car\u00e0cter de Hanna \u00e9s violent, Michael se sent atret per ella i tot ho suporta per tal de continuar al seu costat, fins que un bon dia ella desapareix sobtadament posant fi a la relaci\u00f3. Anys m\u00e9s tard, en les sessions d\u2019un judici sobre crims de guerra als camps de concentraci\u00f3 nazis, Michael la tornar\u00e0 a trobar: Hanna est\u00e0 asseguda en el banc del acusats.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana;\">L\u2019altra lectura \u00e9s un text escrit per Herman Melville, l\u2019autor de Moby Dick, l\u2019any 1853: Bartleby, l\u2019escrivent. Text breu per\u00f2 intens, ens planteja la hist\u00f2ria d\u2019un copista del despatx d\u2019un advocat de Wall Street encarregat d\u2019aquella feina tediosa, cansada i let\u00e0rgica que consisteix a copiar documents i contractes amb una absoluta fidelitat a l\u2019original. Aviat l\u2019advocat que l\u2019ha contractat, que actua com a narrador, se n\u2019adona que tot i la qualitat extraordin\u00e0ria de les c\u00f2pies de Bartleby, la seva no \u00e9s una laboriositat alegre, sin\u00f3 una escriptura silenciosa, p\u00e0l\u00b7lida, mec\u00e0nica, absent. I un dia en qu\u00e8 l\u2019advocat el crida per confrontar uns papers en Bartleby li contesta: \u00abPreferiria no fer-ho\u00bb, frase que pac\u00edficament i serena anir\u00e0 repetint a cada nou requeriment de qu\u00e8 es objecte fins arribar, veritablement, a preferir no fer res. Passats els instants d\u2019estupefacci\u00f3 \u2014no exempts d\u2019humor\u2014 l\u2019advocat adverteix que l\u2019actitud de Bartleby \u00e9s la d\u2019un rebuig progressiu del m\u00e9s m\u00ednim deure, com si una apatia insuperable s\u2019hagu\u00e9s apoderat de la seva voluntat, arribant a l\u2019extrem de declarar que no tornaria a escriure mai m\u00e9s. Interrogat sobre la ra\u00f3 d\u2019aquesta decisi\u00f3, Bartleby respon a l\u2019advocat: \u00abNo sabeu veure-la v\u00f3s mateix?\u00bb. Aquesta ra\u00f3 roman oculta al llarg de l\u2019obra; tan sols a les acaballes d\u2019aquesta es desvela en forma d\u2019un rumor que apunta al moment en qu\u00e8 a la vida d\u2019un individu s\u2019asseca el riu de les esperances i es comen\u00e7a a percebre la pr\u00f2pia vida com una carta sense destinatari.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana;\">Oh Hanna!
