Mobility to Sannaskolan
In Sweden, Basic Education (after Preschool) begins one year later and lasts one year less than in our country. It corresponds to the current courses of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of Compulsory Secondary Education.
Sannaskolan is a public school located in the Sandarna district of Gothenburg. It is a large centre with approximately 640 students studying from 2nd to 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education. There are 6 programs! Unlike Bellvitge Institute, Sannaskolan does not offer either Baccalaureate or Employment Insertion Programs. Sannaskolan employs a teaching and learning methodology called PALS, which promotes the integration of all types of students. For example, personalized teaching is highly valued. That’s why they have the equivalent of Intensive Support for Inclusive Education (SIEI): students have their classroom, which enhances their learning. Additionally, there are other students who, due to special circumstances, may experience temporary learning difficulties. These students also work in small groups, although they participate in inclusion activities for some hours in their respective class groups.
A very different characteristic between our institute and Sannaskolan is the role of tutors. At Sannaskolan, students have the same person as their tutor for the three years they will be at the school. This allows tutors to get to know their students very well, fostering knowledge and trust between students and teachers. Moreover, Sannaskolan has a strong teaching tradition in digital environments: they use a digital educational platform specific to the school, which is closed to the public, where teaching practices are specified. Therefore, we cannot access it. In Sweden, there are no extracurricular activities at schools or institutes. The most popular sports that students practice are soccer, basketball, roller hockey, and ice hockey.
Finally, Sannaskolan is also a center with good environmental practices. Students have lunch at the school because there is a cafeteria that prepares all kinds of diets: vegetarian, as well as special diets for various allergies and intolerances. Each week, the amount of food wasted is recorded, allowing for better adjustments in future purchasing decisions. Food waste at Sannaskolan is minimal! Additionally, there is a small canteen where students sometimes buy snacks.
