Una caracter\u00edstica impresionante de la bioluminiscencia, es la gran diversidad de los organismos que tienen desarrollada la capacidad de emitir luz. En ellos se incluyen bacterias, hongos, esponjas, corales, flagelados, gusanos marinos, medusas, crust\u00e1ceos , caracoles, calamares e insectos como las luci\u00e9rnagas y cocuyos.<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Muchos peces son tambi\u00e9n luminosos, pero no se conocen formas luminiscentes entre mam\u00edferos, anfibios, reptiles, aves y plantas superiores, y con excepci\u00f3n de algunas bacterias ning\u00fan organismo de agua dulce.<br \/>\nEn cambio en el medio marino es muy corriente la bioluminiscencia. La reacci\u00f3n productora de luz es una ramificaci\u00f3n del proceso general del transporte de electrones por el que las c\u00e9lulas extraen energ\u00eda a partir los nutrientes. Esta emisi\u00f3n de luz esta catalizada por la enzima luciferasa, siendo los substratos la flavin monucleotido reducida (FMNH2) que desempe\u00f1a el papel de la luciferasa, el ox\u00edgeno molecular y un aldeh\u00eddo saturado de cadena larga.<br \/>\nLa Bioluminiscencia es generalmente una consecuencia de la respiraci\u00f3n de los microorganismos, la disminuci\u00f3n de la emisi\u00f3n de luz, indica por tanto, un menor nivel de la actividad respiratoria, directamente relacionada con el grado de toxicidad ambiental. La intensidad de la luz generada depende de varios factores externos como son la temperatura, el pH, la salinidad y la naturaleza y concentraci\u00f3n de las substancias toxicas.<br \/>\nLa luz emitida por las bacterias luminosas es generalmente una amplia banda de color azul verdoso (480 a 500 nm) con un m\u00e1ximo espectral cercano a los 480nm.<br \/>\nEl equipo para el test BBT (Tox Tracer de Skalar) est\u00e1 formado por un fotomultiplicador, (luminometro), un bloque incubador y un conjunto de reactivos que incluye la bacteria marina Photobacterium Phosphoreum NRRL B-11177, o tambi\u00e9n se puede utilizar el Vibrido-Fisheri (bacteria liofilizadas o cultivos recientemente preparados ).<br \/>\nSe calcula el llamado EC<sub>50<\/sub> diluci\u00f3n o concentraci\u00f3n de una substancia que causa la inhibici\u00f3n de un 50% de la emisi\u00f3n de luz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En la imagen podemos ver al
