El que \u00e9s realment preocupant, ara mateix, \u00e9s l\u2019abandonament de la lectura per part d\u2019amplis sectors de la poblaci\u00f3. O sigui, hi ha amplis sectors de poblaci\u00f3 que han fet seu, potser inconscientment, l\u2019acudit gr\u00e0fic d\u2019El Roto (15.01.04) on un nen amb bata escriu aquesta frase a la pissarra: \u201cLa nostra identitat cultural \u00e9s la ignor\u00e0ncia\u201d. Que Espanya \u00e9s un dels pa\u00efsos amb un \u00edndex de lectura m\u00e9s baix d\u2019Europa ja ho devem saber. Que t\u00e9 quatre milions d\u2019aturats, tamb\u00e9. Que hi ha set milions d\u2019analfabets funcionals (un mili\u00f3 dels quals s\u00f3n catalans) potser no, que no ho sab\u00edem. Aix\u00f2 vol dir exactament que aquests set milions poden llegir per\u00f2 no comprenen el que llegeixen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Estic parlant del fet de llegir seriosament: un dels pocs actes de llibertat que encara ens queden, i que ha de reunir for\u00e7osament tres condicions: un llibre de paper, un silenci absolut i un llapis a la m\u00e0. Tenir un llibre a les mans \u00e9s com una encaixada a alg\u00fa altre en qu\u00e8 a m\u00e9s experimento l\u2019olor del paper, la textura, el contacte f\u00edsic (jo no puc fer una encaixada a un e-book, ni a una tauleta, m\u2019enteneu?). El silenci \u00e9s necessari per ser capa\u00e7os de sentir la veu de l\u2019autor que ens interrroga. El silenci \u00e9s la base necess\u00e0ria per a la lectura, per a l\u2019abstracci\u00f3 que aquesta comporta, i per estar amb nosaltres mateixos: callar \u201cper deixar que l\u2019\u00e9sser ens parli\u201d. D\u2019acord: el llapis a la m\u00e0 el deixo per als intel\u00b7lectuals, i per als professors de literatura dels instituts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Observeu amb atenci\u00f3 el dibuix que il\u00b7lustra aquest article: tothom est\u00e0 enfeinat joguinejant amb el seu m\u00f2bil i, all\u00f2 sorprenent, \u00e9s que amb el m\u00f2bil estan fotografiant l\u2019\u00fanica persona que no en t\u00e9, que curiosament est\u00e0 llegint un llibre de cobertes vermelles. \u00c9s una imatge inquietant i horrorosa pel que t\u00e9 de real i de versemblant. Sembla una escena extreta de <em>Black Mirror<\/em> (meravellosa s\u00e8rie dist\u00f2pica brit\u00e0nica creada el 2011 per Charlie Brooker; ja han estrenat la tercera temporada a Netflix, amb un primer cap\u00edtol impressionant: <em>Nosedive<\/em>). Per entendre\u2019ns: all\u00f2 <em>freaky <\/em>d\u2019aquesta imatge, all\u00f2 ins\u00f2lit i desassossegant \u00e9s \u201cel noi que est\u00e0 llegint\u201d no pas els altres alien\u00edgenes que l\u2019estan retratant amb el seu m\u00f2bil. Us n\u2019adoneu de com s\u2019ha capgirat el que coneixem com a realitat? Des de quan \u201cel noi que llegeix\u201d s\u2019ha convertit en l\u2019estrany? Qui ha perm\u00e8s que aix\u00f2 succeeixi? En tenim nosaltres alguna part de culpa?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cal saber amb urg\u00e8ncia al costat de qui ens alineem: al costat dels qui llegeixen o al costat dels qui no ho fan. Hem de saber on pertanyem (permeteu-me l\u2019al\u00b7legoria): si formem part dels devots de la <em>religi\u00f3 de la lectura<\/em> o si, altrament, som dels ateus que no trobaran mai l\u2019aut\u00e8ntica salvaci\u00f3 (ni aqu\u00ed ni en el m\u00e9s enll\u00e0). Una religi\u00f3 que nom\u00e9s t\u00e9 un sol manament: llegir per gaudir, llegir per con\u00e8ixer, llegir per comprendre, llegir per cr\u00e9ixer com a \u00e9sser hum\u00e0 (llegir per no morir com uns idiotes).
