We knew the name of the <strong>different stages<\/strong> and their characteristics and, although we did have some caterpillars and observed their transformations into chrysalis, we <strong>unfortunately could not see how the butterfly emerged<\/strong> from it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Just the other day, Laura gave us a <strong>wonderful surprise<\/strong> that solved this problem\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she said <em>\u201cIt is white and grey and it&#8217;s got six small legs\u201d <\/em>we were almost sure: <em>\u201cit\u2019s a butterfly!<\/em>\u201d some Alicia said. But it was when Laura replied \u201c<em>the surprise has got NO wings<\/em>\u201d that we were sure: it was a <strong>caterpillar<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We saw a lot of <strong>special caterpillars <\/strong>that are very famous because they are used to produce <strong>silk<\/strong> (or SEDA in Catalan). Because they are so special they have a name of their own <strong>SILKWORMS<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were<strong> fascinated by<\/strong> them and we <strong>touched<\/strong> and <strong>observed<\/strong> them using <strong>magnifying<\/strong> <strong>glasses<\/strong>. We later <strong>documented<\/strong> our observations in the notebook <strong>using the templates<\/strong> we had. As we were familiar with the vocabulary and the structures it was quite easy to use the templates to <strong>write our observations in English.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once this was done, we left them in a <strong>cage<\/strong> and fed them with <strong>mulberry leaves.<\/strong> Just a week after, they started building their <strong>cocoon<\/strong> and to our surprise.. we observed that it was fluffy and&nbsp; made of a <strong>soft yellow thread<\/strong>. That is where <strong>silk<\/strong> comes from!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We only needed to wait t<strong>wo more weeks<\/strong> to say hello to the <strong>moths<\/strong> and we saw that they had a <strong>white and soft body and two feathery antennae<\/strong>. The surprise was that, even though they had <strong>four white wings<\/strong>, they did <strong>not fly<\/strong>!
