As you know, we read in English during 30 minutes every Thursday. We have a portable library with all kinds of books: comics, cook books, art books, picture books, short abridged novels and a lot of science books. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browsing DK’s “Children’s Encyclopedia”, a Tintin found a very curious table with multiplications. It was very intriguing and we decided to use it in class to do different activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laura helped us to understand the text accompanying the chart and we discovered curious facts about multiplication in English. First, English people read expressions like 3X2 as “three times<\/strong> two” (tres vegades dos) which is much easier to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And second, we discovered SQUARE (quadrats) numbers. Do you know what a square number<\/strong> is? It is the result of a number multiplied by himself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We coloured on the board the different multiplications of square numbers and it always ended in a coloured square! Amazing! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
