Dos dels objectes que giren indirectament al voltant del Sol (sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits naturals) s\u00f3n m\u00e9s grans que el planeta m\u00e9s petit,\u00a0Mercuri.El sistema solar\u00a0es form\u00e0 fa 4.600\u00a0milions d&#8217;anys\u00a0a partir del col\u00b7lapse gravitatori d&#8217;un\u00a0n\u00favol molecular\u00a0interestel\u00b7lar gegant. La immensa majoria de la seva\u00a0massa\u00a0es troba en el Sol, mentre que la major part de la resta correspon a\u00a0J\u00fapiter. Els quatre planetes interiors, Mercuri,\u00a0Venus,\u00a0Terra\u00a0i\u00a0Mart, s\u00f3n\u00a0planetes tel\u00b7l\u00farics, \u00e9s a dir, planetes m\u00e9s petits que es componen sobretot de roca i metall. Els quatre planetes exteriors s\u00f3n\u00a0gegants gasosos\u00a0i tenen una massa considerablement superior a la dels planetes tel\u00b7l\u00farics. Els dos m\u00e9s grans,\u00a0J\u00fapiter\u00a0i\u00a0Saturn, es componen principalment d&#8217;hidrogen\u00a0i\u00a0heli, mentre que els dos planetes situats m\u00e9s lluny del Sol,\u00a0Ur\u00e0\u00a0i\u00a0Nept\u00fa, es componen en gran part de\u00a0vol\u00e0tils, \u00e9s a dir, subst\u00e0ncies amb un punt de fusi\u00f3 alt en comparaci\u00f3 amb l&#8217;hidrogen i l&#8217;heli, com ara\u00a0aigua,\u00a0amon\u00edac\u00a0i\u00a0met\u00e0.
