The end of the term is always very hard (especially this year because it’s very hot!). That’s the reason why in Year 6 we have carried out a very funny project called CAN SERRA NEWS<\/em><\/strong>. One day, Pedro (6\u00e8 B student) proposed\u00a0to invent some news and act out as journalists and create our own “Can Serra News” TV show. We thought it was a very funny idea. These are the steps we have followed in order to create our “CAN SERRA NEWS<\/strong>“, which integrates the 4 skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

  1. Collaborative WRITING<\/strong>. First of all, each group invented a sentence (the beginning of a story created by the rest of classmates). The activity was called Folding collaborative WRITING<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  2. Group READING<\/strong>. When the stories were completed, we read them out loud and shared them with our colleagues. We also drew a picture which illustrated the\u00a0different\u00a0stories.<\/li>\n
  3. Before acting, we watched an example of Breaking News (by some funny children) in Canada.<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. We WROTE<\/strong> down our script by following the example of the video we’ve watched. We copied some of the sentences they used in the video and wrote down speeches for our personalized “Breaking News<\/em>“.<\/li>\n
  5. Rehearsal and acting. We had to share the different sentences of the texts to rehearse, prepare our SPEAKING<\/strong> and acting out.<\/li>\n
  6. Our teacher recorded us with a camera while we were SPEAKING\u00a0<\/strong>and acting out the text. Some girls created a TV made of cardboard.<\/li>\n
  7. The teacher\u00a0transferred the videos to the COMPUTER<\/strong> and, in groups, we compiled the videos and created a movie. We also made a \u00a0slide picture for each of the news by using classtools.net<\/em> (breaking news).<\/li>\n
  8. We had some SOUND PROBLEMS . For this reason, we concluded that we needed to insert some SUBTITLES<\/strong> in the video so people could understand the dialogues. It was a funny way to learn how to add text to videos and, at the same time, improve\u00a0our WRITING<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  9. Finally, we watched and LISTENED<\/strong>\u00a0to all the videos. To conclude, we also filled in an ASSESSMENT<\/strong> GROUP CHART to analyse the individual and group work.<\/li>\n
