ARCHEOLOGIST AFTERNOON

On Wednesday 16th of May 2018 afternoon, the class of Cicle Superior went to “Castellet de Banyoles”with Rob, our history teacher, Bernardette and Vicent because we are studing the Iron Age and the Iberics.

In “Castellet de Banyoles” has an extension of 4.4 ha. and  there are two archeological sites: the Iberics village and the ruins of the Medieval castle.

When we enter, we saw two pentagonal towers. Now, they mesure 1,5 meters high, but 2000 years ago they were about 5 meters. There is also a drenage system.

The village was left aproximately 200 years B.C. and it was renovated by the Romans one century B.C. We saw the houses where the people lived. They were made of stones, mud and straw. There were some houses with interior courtyard. They mesure about 300 square meters. Nowadays we only can see part of the stone bases of the houses.

El Castellet de Banyoles doesn’t present an excellent conservation, because farmers didn´t appreciate the value of this remains and, some times, they took the stones to built their houses. Anyway, it is a beautiful village.

This is one of the most important Iberic villages  in Catalonia.  Archeologist are still digging to discover more remains in the place.

In conclusion, it was a beautiful afternoon and the landscape was spectacular.

Thanks to teacher Rob because we have learned lots of historical facts and for this unique afternoon.
